David & Fabian prepare for Amsterdam Marathon

CSR

31 May 2023

We’re proud to share that two of our employees are taking part in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in support of charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers. European Operations Director, David Mullaney and EMEA Bid Manager, Fabian Bishop have already started training for this 43 kilometre marathon which will take place in The Netherlands capital Amsterdam on the 15th of October 2023. The idea to take part in this event was borne seemingly naturally after we as a company was awarded our silver award from the Armed Service Covenant and appointment to mission critical project in Amsterdam.

We asked Fabian for comment, “I first came across Scotty’s Little Soldiers whilst on work experience at a local newspaper in 2015. Immediately I was in awe of the fantastic work they do to support so many young people across the UK. In the aftermath of the pandemic and the hard time many people are facing right now, I believe the work charities like Scottie’s champion, is more important than ever. I look forward to this mammoth challenge”

David Mullaney added, “We all need to reflect sometimes on what we have and what we take for granted and see how we can help our communities and people in need. This challenge will help raise much needed funds to help people in need and promote a healthier lifestyle among our colleagues and communities”

About the charity:

Scotty’s Little Soldiers is charity dedicated to supporting children & young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served with the Armed Forces. Inspired by the experience of army widow Nikki Scott, the charity honours husband Corporal Lee Scott’s memory – both as a loyal soldier and a loving father.

The charity provides a range of programmes to support children and young people with their bereavement needs, well-being, education, and development. The charity promises to provide access to the very best health and well-being support, deliver outstanding development opportunities and give children and young people a chance to smile again.

About the course:

The course in Amsterdam is known for its flat, fast, and historical character. The start and finish take place in the front of the grandstand in the 85-year-old Olympic Stadium. Every year this leaves an unforgettable impression, thanks to the presence of the supporters in the grandstand.

A section of the course follows part of the path used during the Olympic Games in 1928 alongside the Amstel River, stately mansions, and windmills. This rural trail offers beautiful views and gives an impression of the enormous activity that rules the Amstel every day. The course also leads marathon runners through the heart of the Rijksmuseum, the famous passage which connects Amsterdam city centre with the south of Amsterdam. The monumental building contains some of the most world-famous works of art by celebrated Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Vermeer. Then it’s onto Vondelpark, the largest city park in Amsterdam. Fabian and David will pass through the park twice throughout their run.

For the third year in a row, the marathon will go through the Zuidas area of Amsterdam. This ‘new part’ of Amsterdam is characterised by its impressive architecture of high-rise offices and apartment buildings.

We want to wish David and Fabian every bit of luck and support for the marathon in October but also in their training as they prepare for this physically and mentally challenging event. David and Fabian have set a personal goal to raise £1500 in donations for the great cause.
